Atletico Madrid 2-1 Real Madrid: Madrid Derby Report & 26/27 Kit Info
The Madrid Derby delivered everything you could want from a rivalry match: tension, controversy, and a decisive moment that completely shifted the balance of power in La Liga.
A Cagey First Half
Both teams struggled to find rhythm in the opening 45 minutes. Real Madrid, under Jose Mourinho, started with a defensive setup, opting for Aurelien Tchouameni in midfield over creativity . The first half was marked more by fouls than football, with the main talking point being a VAR review involving Jude Bellingham and Atletico’s Cristian Romero .
The Red Card That Changed Everything
The match exploded into life just minutes after the restart. In the 52nd minute, Real Madrid defender Dean Huijsen pulled down Giuliano Simeone inside the box, conceding a penalty and receiving a red card after a VAR review .
Alejandro Grimaldo stepped up and converted the spot-kick in the 53rd minute, sending Thibaut Courtois the wrong way to give Atletico a 1-0 lead .
David Doubles the Lead
Atletico wasted no time capitalizing on their numerical advantage. Just six minutes later, Jonathan David scored his third goal in three matches, converting a cross from Giuliano Simeone to make it 2-0 .
Late Drama, But Atletico Hold On
Real Madrid, reduced to ten men, fought back and pulled one goal back through Antonio Rüdiger in the 89th minute, heading home from a set-piece . But it was too little, too late for Los Blancos.
La Liga Standings Shift
The result reshuffled the top of the La Liga table :
Position Team Points
Barcelona 21
Atletico Madrid 16
Real Madrid 15
This victory lifts Atletico to second place, while Real Madrid drops to third, now trailing Barcelona by six points .
